All You Need to Know About ASEAN Student Week 2017


ASEAN Student Week 2017 is the 1st international student event held by International Relations Department collaborate with International Relations Student Association Brawijaya University that will bring ASEAN students to some unforgettable days in Malang City, East Java. The aim of this event is to give some opportunities to ASEAN students to experience cultural diversity, International Student Debate Competition, ASEAN networks, International Workshops and sharing ideas through Group Discussion regarding peace and leadership, ASEAN Social Night, and many precious things.


More About Debate Competition

The debate team will consist of 3 debators from the same university and the same country. All the debate teams are responsible to bring 1 more person as an adjudicator from the same university. The adjudicator can be a student or a lecture who has experience and knowledge about general debate mechanism.

More About Group Discussion

Participants who are not signing up for a debate team will be participated in our group discussion regarding peace and leadership and not supposed to be from the same university with participants in the debate team. Participants for this group discussion can sign up for the program as individual participant.


Event Location & Date

Malang City and Batu City, East Java, Indonesia, Starting from August 18th to August 20th 2017.


Malang City

Malang is the second largest city in East Java province, Indonesia. It has an ancient history dating back to the Mataram Kingdom. During the period of Dutch colonization, it was a popular destination for European residents. The city is famous for its cool air and the surrounding country regions of Tumpang, Batu, Singosari, and Turen. People in East Java sometimes call it “Paris of East Java.” The history of Malang Regency could be revealed through the Dinoyo inscription 760 AD as the primary official document to support the birth of Malang before a new inscription was discovered in 1986, which is so far not yet revealed. According to the inscription, it was concluded that the 8th century was the beginning of the existence of Malang Regency’s government due to the birth of King Gajayana’s ruling of his kingdom in Malang.

As a centre of tourism, Malang has various places of interest which can be classified into local, regional, national and international standards, including traditional dance performances such as Tari Topeng (Mask Dance), Jaran Pegon, Tari Beskalan (Beskalan Dance), etc. There are also ‘Topeng’ or Mask handicraft at the villages of Jabung and Kedungmonggo which have become a familiar landmark in Malang Regency. This cool and fresh city also has been equipped with such kind of tourism accomodation including hotel, restaurant, etc. The visitors can visit its interesting tourism objects including; City Hall, Bird & Flower Market, Senaputra Park, Kayu Tangan Complex, City Square, Taman Krida Budaya, Gajayana Stadium, Ijen Boulevard, etc.


Batu City

Batu city is located in 800 meters above sea level, with cold temperature 17-25,6 degree of Celsius. Batu city is an area in East Java that surrounded by mountains. Geographically, Batu is tropic area. The potencies of this area are coming from the agro product properties, fruits, vegetables, mountain panorama and the hills. When the visitors enter to Batu city, the fresh mountain air has welcomed us.

Batu has explored its effort to show its tourism nature potency. The alternative that had done is warm pool Cangar, have corrected and renovated. Meanwhile, the other places as the alternative of new tourism also start to pop out, they are; Jatim Park, Selecta, Songgoriti, Agro tourism, Coban Rondo waterfall, Mount Panderman, Mount Arjuno, Mount Welirang, Mount Ukir, Mount Banyak. Batu City is the main tourism object for domestic and foreign tourists. There are many tourism objects in Batu that become the dream object for those visitors, especially its mountain tour. To support those tourism objects, Batu has facilitated with hotels, inns, villas and the other lodges, which has mountain nuance. Beside that, Batu city also called as “Batu City A Millions Beauty”.


Universitas Brawijaya

University of Brawijaya (UB) is located in the city of Malang, East Java province, Indonesia. UB was officially declared by the President of the Republic of Indonesia January 5th 1963. There are 11 faculties and 1 program held in UB. Visions: To be an outstanding university and play an active role as an agent of change to the society through education, research and community services complies with the national and international standard. Mission: To conduct professional teaching-learning process. To promote awareness to the existence of God’s creations and appreciation of human and other creatures rights. To conduct academic process that educates the students to be highly competent graduates and qualified professionals. To innovate, develop, and disseminate sciences and technologies, to empower community welfare and enhance the national culture.

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) is a large (enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Universitas Brawijaya (UB) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 54 years old H.E. institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students’ past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment. UB also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, housing, sport facilities and/or activities, financial aids and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services.




Participants have to pay the participation fees for IDR 2.500.000,- or USD 200 that will cover all accommodations (transportation during the program, staying at the most comfortable hotel in town, meals 3 times a day, coffee break, one ticket each participant for Museum Angkut City Tour).
